The following puzzle is a way to introduce counting in Base 2.

Solution to Three-Weights Problem:  The values of the 3 weights are 1, 2, and 5 pounds.

Solution to Four-Weights Problem:  For Ursula to count all of the way to 15 with 4 weights, their values must be 1, 2, 4, and 8.  Notice that these are the powers of 2, and combining them in different ways amounts to counting in base 2.
